The Mighty Rangers

So I have been talking about self perception and how it impacts us. I am a huge Texas Rangers baseball fan. It all started growing up in Arlington, TX and watching Ruben Sierra hit homers and attending Nolan Ryan's 7th Hitter. From there I was hooked. My Rangers have really only had 3 successful playoff seasons in the history of the club (est. 1972) and haven't made a lot of noise in the past 10 years. Needless to say there hasn't been a lot of success.

But over the past year or so they have changed the perception. They changed leadership, established a game plan, brought in lots of young talent and reshaped a struggling franchise in a very short period.

The question is why wasn't this done years ago?

I think sometimes it is hard for us to commit to the little things that will set the course of our futures. The little things that make such a huge difference not only take big commitment, it takes perseverance.

What do you think? Who is your favorite team?

Go Rangers!

  1. Clint, you know that my favorite baseball team is the New York Yankees.

As a Yankees fan, I know that I am extremely spoiled to winning. I try not to take that for granted. However, there is a reason why their franchise is successful. Yes, they spend more money than any other team. Yes, they go after most of the "big-time" free agents. Most people always point that out for their success. But what about their willingness to pour into their franchise? Yes, they spend more money but they also make more money. They are willing to pour into investment to produce the best result. The leadership is not tight-fisted with their resources.

At the same time, the Rangers are doing their thing and being successful. It would not work for them to try to mirror the Yankees leadership model. They had to find out what works best for them. Their goals are the same (winning a lot of baseball games), but how they get there might look different.

    That will preach.

Plus, it really helps having Josh Hamilton. That guys is a beast.
